Le Courant du Quartier housing cooperativeMontréal, Québec, Canada
Completed for the social economy enterprise Bâtir son quartier, the Le Courant du Quartier housing cooperative comprises three 19-unit buildings. A total of 57 housing units are set around three courtyards, which are linked by walkways allowing for circulation throughout the site and fostering a sense of community. All of the units face two directions and feature balconies and private entrances. In its design, Ædifica surpassed the initial zoning guidelines, building on stronger housing density, creating more communal areas and ensuring greater ground-level accessibility. The cooperative blends perfectly into the neighbourhood, thanks to a design which is adapted to family needs, and an overall size which suits the scale of the boulevard on one side and that of the single-family homes on the other. “Le courant du Quartier” was delivered on a progressive basis in advance of the original time-line, so families were able to take up occupancy quickly, which was a considerable advantage for the real estate developer.
